Is anyone interested in a competitive programming meet-up in Singapore? I thought there were not many competitive programmers here. However, I have seen guys who are wearing google-code-jam or ICPC T-shirts four times in a few months, so I am planning to hold a meet-up here. Both students and professionals, from newbies to grandmasters are welcome! Especially, there is no event like ICPC for professionals, so this would be a good opportunity to mingle.

I will briefly introduce myself. I'm shindannin (NobuMiu in topcoder). I'm Japanese and working in Singapore as a video game programmer. I love broadcasting about competitive programming after competitions (the total air time is beyond 1000 hours!). I sometimes hold competitive programming meet-ups in Japan the previous event.

The date is TBD, probably in the end of October or November. If you are intereseted in the meet-up, feel free to comment or send a message to me. Thanks!

I got a lot of messages from you, all. Thanks a lot! I will reply to you one by one. :)

I have just created the webpage for the meet-up. Next, I will contact you through this website instead of Codeforces, so please join the group. http://www.meetup.com/Competitive-Programming-SG/

And I create the first meet-up. It is going to be held on 15 December, not in November because - Some of them will be busy by exams in November. - ICPC regional contest will be held in the second week of December So, I set up the date in the third week in December.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me. Thanks!

There are 80 members in Istanbul. You can initiate meet-up! :)

In university (NUS + NTU), there are bunch of us, some set their organizations on CF, so you can see them here and there. Many of us know each other through ICPC / National Olympiads.

For professionals, I only know few who participated in ICPC while in university. In my company, I see only 1 other guy participate in competitions.

Anw, I think it would be great if you initiate meet-ups :)

Thanks for your information! When I talked to a guy wearing code jam T-shirts, he said he had already left from competitive programming. Do many students quit it after ICPC? If so, I understand there are few professionals here.

Anyway, I will prepare for the meet-ups!

Yeah, most people stopped competing after ACM ICPC. There's just not enough motivation to continue practicing, and not many people seem to think of competitions as fun. So yeah, I don't know if meeting people will be enough to convince people to come. But let's try :)

Btw, PayPal SG is currently hosting many meetups. If you can prepare a good enough plan but need a place, and probably if we can have 20 people coming to meetup, I can give up some contact points.

Thanks for the suggestion! Actually, it's quite hard to find a good place so this offer is helpful. 20 people might be a high goal for the first meet-up. However, I have some ideas. I will contact you later.

The National University of Singapore (NUS) will be hosting the ICPC Singapore Regionals for the first time since 2007. It will be held on the 9th-11th of December. You might want to drop by :)

Small updates. I am doing a small survey about preference and schedule of the meet-up and sending a message to you. Thank you so much for your cooperation! However, there is a limitation that I can send only ten messages per day in Codeforces... I would like to reply soon but I cannot do that for a while. Please wait for a few days and then I will reply to you.

Thanks for your efforts. It is very troublesome to reply from codeforces messaging system. I tend to forget the context when writing a reply, and there is no way to look back the message once you started replying. I think its better to create a spreadsheet and just share the link.
