KOTEHOK's blog

By KOTEHOK, 11 years ago, translation, In English

There were a lot of requests like "Russian team ioi-2013 blog". I'll try to write something. This year I am a guest on IOI, so I have a schedule that differs from the contestants' one. For example, when the contestants had the Practice Session, where, as rumoured, there were something bad with printers (but do you remember at least one place where printers worked good from the beginning? ;), I had an excursion to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, where are some beautiful Australian (but not only) animals, for example the following ones:

In general, Australia and Brisbane look nice:

The negative things are, for example, some delays of announced events (for example, we're now waiting for the opening ceremony):

And also there is a poor choice of food (especially meat — seems that Australians are mainly vegetarians :).

The good things is that the locals are always ready to help.

Here is a photo of our team. They came a few days before to avoid a jet lag :) Let's say Good Luck to them, the first competition day will be tomorrow (8 am local time)!

We are waiting for it too. This year contest and place for spectators are far enough, so we just don't know if contest have already started. It's not too many information here. :(

I don't even think this stream is live ...

And it also has a lot of delay and doesn't provide any confident information about the competition ... I just saw some interviews.

I am one of participants.

I submitted many times on second and third task, but I couldn't get the feedback over 1 hours...

And the judge queue is still busy, so the analysis may be postponed to tomorrow... I want to know my results...

That sounds horrible ... maybe it should be unrated ... )

I mean, even if the problem itself is fine, the endless waiting queue'll influence each person differently. It shouldn't happend in such a important contest.

Some leaders did have scary ideas like this :D But it would be unfair to the competitors who tried to cope with the system for a long time, so I'm sure it won't happen.

Some more accurate info: Around an hour after the contest started, crazy shit started happening. Some submissions were apparently skipped by the judging system, and those that weren't took very long to evaluate. The organizers eventually fixed the problem, but a large queue of submissions piled up in the meantime and it was impossible to test them all before the end of the contest (which was extended by half an hour, so it was 5.5 hrs in fact). The last submissions to be tested were probably those submitted 1.5-2 hrs before the end of the contest.

It was a poor combination of tasks and judging system. Task 'wombats' had a 20s time limit, so testing just a single submission took too long. Task 'artclass', on the other hand, used actual paintings, so it was pretty much impossible to generate your own test cases (unless you're a painter :D), and the samples didn't contain enough information for solving the task for full 100pts — you needed to test your program by actually submitting it (the author's solution needed 5 submissions to the contest system until it got a full score, too :D). It would, although with some difficulty, be all right... had no system error happened.

I would hyperbolize somewhat here, but what if there is a rowing contest and suddenly all the water from the channel disappears. Would it be unfair to cancel results to those who tried to cope (i. e. run with boat)?

The main reason for why I'm against cancelling day 1 is that from the results, you'd see how many people got a lot of points (top score was 287, I think). So you could add "and actually reached the goal while running with the boat" :D

Day 2 went without serious trouble, at least. The contest was delayed significantly because one of the task statements was updated shortly before the contest and it had to be re-uploaded on the contest machines, but the feedback was working fast. And some results sure are surprising! (BTW I wonder why the live scoreboard stopped working...)

    Do you mean tasks?

If you want to see problems — there will be lots of them today. You can see them anywhere.

My result was awful!! I took many hours on "game" by using KD tree, which got TLE in special cases. by the way, KD-tree solution passed by inserting only one constant optimization!!! but I don't mind it because even if I'd solved that, I couldn't have gotten GOLD MEDAL ToT

I mean that getting a gold medal is very difficult even if you're a redcoder both in CF and TC.

Oh man you're gold medalist in APIO 2013 which had problems very harder than IOI 2013.

I think if you worked hard you could got the gold medal
